Page 39 – Advice on Local Green Space It is vital that local green space is provided, maintained and hopefully enlarged with any development proposals.

Thanet is rapidly losing is open green spaces. The old disused railway line from Margate Station (currently at All Saints industrial park), via Tivoli Road, College Road and ending at Enterprise Way should be converted to a walking and biking trail. This route has many mature trees. It is an ideal way to cheaply add a public benefit that will help maintain the health of the residents.

On behalf of the Residents of Reading Street I wish to propose that a small piece of green space in Reading Street be protected. This space contains a public seating bench, two planting tubs which are regularly maintained. The area is directly fronted by the pavement, a grassed area which backs onto shrubs and trees. It is close to the centre of the village and is both a regularly used resting place and an integral part of the village character and setting. Bearing in mind this green space is l

This is a new aspect to the Local Plan making process. We are asked to consider whether any green space of merit and value to the community should be allocated for green space use. The document then goes on to qualify that few spaces are likely to be eligible for such designation!! We feel strongly that rather than necessarily add to green space designations the greater priority is for TDC to ensure that existing parks and public open land are properly maintained. The Council is inviting Town a

CPRE supports a community consultation to identify potential Local Green Space. Consultations offering the opportunity to submit LGS proposals that are incorporated within a Local Plan consultation, however, are often overlooked. It is the experience of CPRE that dedicated consultation is necessary to generate community understanding of the designation and generate interest in submitting proposals.

We would like to suggest that a green space is allocated around the scheduled grade 2 listed ancient monument of Dent De Lion Gatehouse in Garlinge. The Dent De Lion Gatehouse represents the only standing remains of a fortified house; it is a rare monument type with less than 200 identified examples and as such is considered of national importance (National Monument No 31404) . The gatehouse was also painted by J.M.W Turner in 1791 whilst sitting in the courtyard next to the road. We also sugge

We recognise that the proposed policy has been formulated in accordance with national planning guidance. We hope this ensures proposals to designate local greenspace will be assessed in strict compliance with the term "demonstrably special", which in our view should mean that a robust contextual assessment should be provided that clearly demonstrates the value of a particular local space over any other space within the parish. In the past we have seen very weak proposals for local greenspace si

The Local Green Space (LGS) chapter is objected to. The Council is inviting community organisations to submit areas as Local Green Space which is likely to lead to a number of LGS being identified on proposed allocated sites. Whilst the NPPF (para 76) makes provision for communities to identify green areas of local importance, this should have already taken place as the evidence base to the plan has been built up with findings incorporated within the Green Infrastructure Framework policies of th

I agree with this proposal. I just hope that any designation will be honoured in the future.
